Our meals are made 100% by hand in a USDA approved commercial kitchen. In small batches, each meal is gently baked and steam cooked then quickly sealed to lock in maximum nutritional value.

All meals arrive in insulated packaging so you should refrigerate or freeze them as soon as you receive them for maximum freshness. As sealed, your meals will last up to 7 days in the fridge, or you can freeze them for up to 6 months before the freshness begins to fade. Once opened, the meals should be fully consumed within 4 days. Frozen meals should be fully consumed within 4 days of thawing them.

Even if the ice packs have melted, as long as the food packages are cool to the touch, they should still be good. Just get them in the fridge or freezer as soon as possible. If your frozen food has arrived partially thawed, that is also OK. Just get it back in the freezer as soon as possible.

No. Your meals arrive fully cooked and ready to serve. You can serve them cold, or if your dog prefers, pop them in the microwave for about 30 seconds to warm them up. A few sprinkles of water will help keep everything moist and delicious. Remember to use a microwave safe container if you do warm them in the microwave.

It is generally recommended to slowly transition your dog to new food over about a week’s time by adding a small amount of LA Dog Chef fresh food to their current food. Each day, you can increase the amount of LA Dog Chef fresh food and decrease the amount of their old food until they are fully transitioned to LA Dog Chef recipes. As always, consult with your veterinarian on diet changes and more specific guidelines.

For fresh food, the general guidelines recommended by experts are that dogs should eat ½ to 1 cup for every 10 lbs of weight daily. Each recipe is available in either 12 oz. or 25 oz. packages depending on which size box you order. A single 12 oz. package contains about 3 cups of fresh dog food. A single 25 oz. package contains about 6 cups of fresh dog food.

Yes, during the checkout process, you can choose to start a subscription with deliveries as frequently as weekly, or as infrequently as every 8 weeks, plus anywhere in between.

Since all our recipes are cooked fresh, delivery generally occurs 2-3 business days after we receive your order. In the Los Angeles area, it is possible that we can deliver your order same day if placed early enough in the day.
